Feeding & Swallowing Concerns
Many children experience feeding difficulties for various reasons, ranging from picky eating to trouble swallowing . Pediatric feeding disorders can significantly impact children and their families by interfering with growth and development, social routines, and overall health. We offer services targeting deficits in feeding and swallowing for children from infancy through childhood, utilizing treatment strategies tailored to each child’s needs. We provide feeding services in the following areas:
– Infant feeding and swallowing
– Sensory-based oral aversion
– Oral motor dysfunction
– Feeding and swallowing difficulties associated with various medical diagnoses (i.e., prematurity, neurological disorders, laryngomalacia and other aerodigestive disorders, genetic disorders, congenital heart defects, etc.)
When to Seek a Feeding Evaluation
Your child may benefit from an evaluation by our team if they:
- NFrequently refuse foods
- NHave challenging behavior at mealtimes
- NWon’t eat a variety of foods
- NGag, cough, or vomit when eating
- NGain weight slowly, or have trouble gaining weight
- NHave trouble chewing and swallowing foods of different textures
- NHas difficulty drinking from a bottle
